Boating season

Is well and truly upon us.
Water levels have been pretty good. Not overly excessive (a couple of days but not much) and the water table seems to have come up with just small amounts of rain giving medium conditions, short bursts of heavy rain have given high spikes, mostly over night. On the whole some nice steady levels and warm weather. (however these shots are lowish levels).

Lesconil Sunny SUP

Quick clip of some sunny French SUP action in Lesconil, Brittany.

video

East Lyn, the crown jewels

I thinks she's the queen of the South West white water rivers.
More video action from a recent trip.

Main line cruising

Some main lines on the Upper Dart.
One of the finest grade 3+/4 rivers in the whole of the UK and some would say a world class run. I would be one of those people.
Check it out here: Pyranha 9R on the Upper Dart

Change of direction

So the last 18months have seen a a transition on the trails for me, from the bike to the feet mostly.
Getting out on the trails I used to ride before I crushed my spine but a little slower is still awesome and has presented a new challenge: Trail running. Turns out I really enjoy it and am not actually rubbish at it either! So in early summer 2016, a little longer that two years after my first race (Haldon heartbeat 2014) I have signed up for my first Ultra marathon!
The Endurance life Classic Quarter is a 44.5 mile beast on the Cornish coast from the Lizard to Lands end.
Frankly its a ridiculous distance and a very very big challenge for me. It could well break me, it could make me.
I've suckered some good friends into it so I am not alone which defiantly helps.

Training has already begun, and I am just off to France to train and race in Brittany for a few weeks. Watch this space!

Cap de Chevre to Point Dinan on the Crozon peninsula. exactly the same terrain as Kernow. This was a tough 13 miler, can we really do three of these back to back?....

Exeter Canoe Loops micro overnighter

Ryans birthday canoe camping micro bivi overnighter on the River Exe and Exeter Ship canal.
A fine evening paddle down to the Passage house in Topsham for a swift one then a BBQ and bivi on the banks of the canal.

Aquagliding.......great conditions for SUP paddling.

A bit weedy in parts but super clean for a busy waterway.

Shoreline Sports Bude Triathlon 2015

I hit up my first Triathlon this year. A short sprint style event down in Bude Cornwall. Hosted and run by Simon Hammond and his team at Shoreline extreme sports.

I thought a Sprint  (short distance) might be the one to do for a first try. I might have been wrong when it came to talking to people about it. Short = fast! Anyway it was pretty good fun but i still didn't enjoy the swim. I prefer to have my board with me in decent swell.  The bike and run went ok though and I was happy with my time in the end. (results at the bottom)

Setting up in the transition area. My swim to bike was not that quick but I didn't forget anything

Getting ready for the off. To my suprise it was a water start, I thought it would be a run into the water.

500mtr sea swim. What you can't see here is how rough it was further out, a good size 3ft swell.

Up the beach.

Water, bike shoes, lid etc. 20km bike ride in hot weather. 15kms constant uphill and 5 kms flat and down.

Feeling strong heading out on the 5km run.

Prepped. All in all a good event. Not sure about doing another though.

Exactly half way overall, not so great in my cat (senior men) the winner was GB tri team who finished 19 mins in front of me. 57 out of 136 for my run though. Happy days.
A good weekend with my silly event mates Ben and Mel including some surfing, SUP surf and BBQ action.

This vid makes it look really nice.
